Which are the different types of espresso drinks?
Essential Espresso Drinks
The most straightforward espresso drink is one glass of espresso. It is a small café with a wide variety of flavours. A glass of espresso can be taken as is; or served as a base for many types of espresso drinks. The standard recipe for a traditional espresso shot is 30 to 40 ml by volume.
The ratio is about 1:2 (up to 1:1.5) for coffee ground by brewed coffee. Once done correctly, a cup of espresso is balanced with a nice and persistent finish.
“Ristretto” refers to restricted. Ristretto is a shorter and louder shot of espresso made using finer coffee beans and half water. It means a quicker extraction time and more concentrated flavours.
Ristrettos use a one-to-one ratio of grounds-to-spro weight. It is producing a 20 to 25 ml shot. It is much less bitter in terms of flavour than the traditional espresso and lungo. There may be a sweeter or citrusy the flavour.
Doppio is another word for a double shot, made with more ground coffee. These expresso photos are drawn using a double-shot filter inside the portafilter.
Rather than 8 grams of ground coffee, 16 grams serve to make 2 ounces of espresso.

A caffé latte, also known as Café Au Lait, or often shortened to a latte, comprises a third of espresso, two-thirds of warm milk and a micro-foam filling. They are often made with double espresso strokes and can be topped with cinnamon, brown sugar, or cocoa powder.
“Piccolo” means minor in Italian, so this is a small latte, often served in an espresso cup or demitasse. A piccolo latte is a ristretto espresso topped with lukewarm milk.
Mocha latte is commonly known as Mocha. It is a sugary coffee drink made up of a latte with added chocolate or cocoa syrup. If you prefer sweet coffee, you can try adding caramel or peppermint syrup as well. Though a mocha is probably not your go-to cup of coffee in the morning, it’s best served with a meal or even with a dessert.
An espresso macchiato is done by adding a small amount of steamed milk and a glass of espresso foam. Espresso macchiato consists of two-thirds of espresso and a third of the milk. The milk is only intended to complete the espresso and not overwhelm it. Equal amounts of espresso and milk in a macchiato make it more palatable.
An Americano has strength similar to an ordinary cup of black coffee and is brewed by putting hot water into a single or double plane of espresso. As a result, the taste translates into a different flavour of traditional dark coffee.
Typically, the cream is added to the surface, and overall, this type of coffee beverage makes the aromas more expressive and hints at the flavours of espresso. Some can consider milk or milk alternatives to improve the taste.
“lungo” means long. It is heavier than your traditional espresso. But, unfortunately, this means that it also takes more time to make.
To make a lungo, double the amount of water in the same amount of coffee grounds. It leads to higher levels of caffeine and higher levels of coffee extraction. This espresso looks like an Americano but is made differently and will have a different flavour.
Flat white is highly appreciated in Australia and New Zealand. These espressos are similar to a cappuccino but with a higher coffee-to-milk ratio and prepared without foam. Perfect for the ones who want intense coffee flavours in their cup. The milky ingredient is lightly steamed, so you have to pass through a thin frothy layer to taste your coffee.

Cortados are produced from equal quantities of espresso and steamed milk. The milk is steamed, but it is neither foamy nor frothy as in other drinks. Cortado is simply an espresso that is made for easy consumption.
